[Non-halal] For the thickest and most intense bak kut teh (BKT) flavours, it’s got to be (Ah) Her!
After our hike last Sat, we checked out this popular BKT joint nearby. Turns out it is a branch of the popular (and some say the best) Ah Her BKT in Pandaraman, Klang (Max tried it once almost 10 years ago).
And wow! The soup here is so thick and flavourful – it’s almost gravy. In fact, it is probably the thickest BKT soup we tried.
The soup is really intense with full-on herbally and fatty flavours, as it is boiled for hours with herbs and pork.
True to the Klang style, each serving is served individually in porcelain bowls (no claypots here!) and there’s no youtiao.
Pai kut – chunky with full-on intense flavours
So how’s the meat? The highlight has to be the Pai Kut. These are big chunky ribs (not unlike those used for BBQ) with full-on intense flavours and tender meat. So good!
3-layer pork belly
Yin kuat
We also ordered the 3-Layer Pork and Yin Kuat (soft ribs). The skin are so gelatanious and tender, and meat was perfectly tender and rich with herbal taste.
Again, soup was super intense and power – but we were slightly peeved that they don’t really do refills here. Apparently, all the meat and herbs are boiled in one pot until the soup reduces to the right portion and taste.
So, manage your expectations when you come here.
Otherwise, this is definitely worth the trip (without going all the way to Pandaraman) for some serious intense BKT. Our meal amounted tp RM62 for four pax.
MAX RECOMMENDS IT but Ming prefers a less thicker soup.
