Anyang Gamjatang, Mont Kiara
[Non-halal] Gamjatang is one of our favourite Korean dishes, so we were quite excited to discover a new spot serving this comforting pork bone stew in KL.
Anyang Gamjatang is a relatively new addition to Solaris Mont Kiara, specialising in gamjatang – the beloved Korean pork back-bone stew.
What is Gamjatang?

Gamjatang (감자탕), literally translated as “potato soup,” is a popular Korean stew made using pork neck bones. Despite its name, the dish is all about the rich, savoury broth and tender meat.
It typically comes with potatoes, glass noodles, perilla leaves, and massive pork bones, delivering a deeply savoury and slightly spicy profile, with herbal notes from the perilla leaves and seeds.
Our all-time favourite gamjatang spot is Idaejo Bbyeodagui (이대조뼈다귀) in Hongdae (see post here), which we love for its adjustable spice levels.
Back in KL, Kitchen GoHeung (post here) has been our regular go-to. That said, we’re always happy to see more gamjatang options popping up — and of course, we had to give this one a try.
What’s on the menu

Anyang Gamjatang offers several variations of the stew: the original broth, a malatang-inspired version, and one with aged kimchi added.
Prices start from RM87 for a 2-3 pax portion, going up to RM192 for the largest serving. As expected from a proper gamjatang spot, there are plenty of add-ons available, including glass noodles, ramen, rice balls, and fried rice.

Beyond gamjatang, the menu also features Bbyeogui (RM87), which are grilled pork bones coated in a sticky sauce, as well as Hameul Bbyeojjim — braised pork ribs cooked with seafood.
Our order: Gamjatang for two

We went with the original Gamjatang for two. Portion-wise, it was generous, with huge chunks of fresh pork bones and plenty of meat to dig into. The ribs were especially tender and easy to pull apart.

The stew packed a satisfying spicy kick, though we did find the absence of perilla seeds a little disappointing. Still, the portion was filling enough that we could do without adding ramen, thanks to the generous amount of glass noodles already in the pot.

Conclusion
Overall, the gamjatang here was decent and comforting, though not quite enough to dethrone our current favourites. Still, it’s worth checking out if you’re craving gamjatang in KL.
