[Pork-free] Darling, you are nothing but pie-fect to me. For rustic pies and luscious pastas, Café-Bistrot David in TTDI is a place worth checking out.
Coming out of a five-year retirement, Chef David Chin (who founded Dave’s Deli and Dave’s Bistro in the Klang Valley) has assembled a fine culinary team to serve up delicious European-inspired cuisine.
Supported by his equally-celebrated and qualified son Chef Darren Chin (of the DC and Bref restaurant fame), Cafe-Bistrot David offers excellent food and warm hospitality in a casual but intimate setting.

A step into the interior is like taking a step into a resplendent Soho London eatery. You are immediately drawn to the restaurant’s centrepiece – the commanding wine bar – which invites diners to a view of the Chins’ tiffin collection and drinks being prepared.
The vibe is rustic and casual – providing the perfect setting for a catch-up with friends and family.
The place was fully booked when we were there – with two seating sessions currently offered for lunch and dinner services.
We strongly recommend making reservations early on their website to avoid disappointment.
Café-Bistrot David serves hearty meals
The meals served here are hearty and unpretentious – with a keen eye for detail, and emphasis on flavours and portions.
The menu is, after all, personally curated by David Chin – informed by more than 30 years in the business, and a fervor for quality ingredients and food.

Not so humble pie (and deservingly so)
Ignore some of the Google reviews, there is nothing regular about the pies served here.
Priced at RM40 – RM45, the gourmet pies here might seem a bit overpriced when you can get something similar at Dave’s Deli.
However, with choice filling such as pulled lamb, Norwegian smoked salmon, Halibut cod, and beef topside – the pies here are anything but run-of-the-mill.
Our serving of Pulled Lamb Pie (RM45) was spectacular!
First, the lovely brown crust was superbly flaky and buttery.
Tucking into the pie was a joyous experience. After eight hours of slow-roasting, the lamb shank was tender and well-seasoned in a rich tomato-based sauce. It was not gamey at all with lovely accents from mushrooms and peas.
The accompanying mushy peas were delicious and not bland like the one we once tasted in a Greenwich pub in London.
The mashed potatoes were creamy and almost foamy in texture – which Max liked, but might not please those who prefer more body (i.e. Ming). They were generous with the gravy too.
Tagliatelle Truffle Cream Pasta
If the pastas at David’s Bistro are anything to go by – the pastas served should please the crowd.
And our order – the Tagliatelle Truffle Cream (RM58) truly came out on top.
The reviews are true! The prawns were fresh and perfectly grilled – yielding the best experience when sucking the juicy heads. We counted six prawns on our plate, which we thought was good value for the price point.
The pasta was al-dente and the sauce was perfect – not too creamy with lovely aroma from the herring roe, and shredded crab meat. The sauce was infused with enough prawn stock – reminding us of a really good prawn bisque.
CBD Wagyu Burger
On paper, the CBD Wagyu Burger (RM58) sounds like the perfect burger – 175g of premium Aussie Wagyu patty, black truffle mushroom paste, cheese and relish sandwiched in between two spiral flaky pastries.
However, we did find the ensemble too rich.
The positive – the meat was nicely cooked with lovely pink in the middle and adequately juicy. The relish and paste were tasty.
The negative – we found the buns to be slightly over-the-top as it was too buttery with its croissant-like texture and taste. We think a simple brioche would have been perfect for the ensemble.
On another note, the accompanying fries served were superb. They were well-seasoned with a nice soft centre and a crunchy outer texture. We wished they’d served more than four sticks though, haha.
Verdict
Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner here. We highly recommend the pie and pasta.
We will definitely come back to try the rest of the dishes. Top marks too for the excellent service and beautifully-curated interior. RECOMMENDED!
