Chicken House Solaris
[Non-halal] Chimaek, chimaek more. Gimme more. We finally found a spot in KL for chimaek 치맥 – which is the holy pairing of Korean fried chicken (KFC) and beer! It’s found at Chicken House Solaris in Mont Kiara.
While we love the availability of good KFC in the Klang Valley in the forms of BHC and Kyochon – we were happy to find Chicken House Solaris which serves Korea’s favourite combo of fried chicken and beer.
Chicken House Solaris in Mont Kiara
Chimaek is the popular pairing of fried chicken with beer that is often served as anju (food with alcohol) in South Korean restaurants.
We had our first chimaek experience when we dined at BHC Myeongdong in Seoul last year (see our post here). While there have been many openings of KFC restaurants in KL over the last few years, not many of them serve beer for obvious reasons.

Hence, we were quite excited to find out that Chicken House Solaris in Mont Kiara serves beer with its chicken.
Chicken House Solaris also serves Korean beer – including Terra which is endorsed by our favourite Korean actor – Gong Yoo.
Chicken House Solaris
It comes as no surprise that Chicken House comes across as a family-run business, which is the case for most KFCs that operate in Korea.
During our Seoul visit, we found that most KFC outlets are franchised out to families who operate the outlets in residential areas.
Located in the Korean-centric area of Solaris Mont Kiara, Chicken House has a family-run business feel with two ajummas running the show. We especially like the stacks of takeaway boxes at the front of the shop ever-ready to go – which is authentic to the experience in South Korea.
Oppa, please find many KFC varieties here
Chicken House offers a great selection of KFC flavours. You can also opt for boneless chicken, or just chicken wings and drummettes.
Some of the flavours served here include Cheese Soy Garlic, Soy Garlic, Sweet Sauce and even Mala.
But there is more to just fried chicken. You can also find other popular Korean dishes here such as pajeon, bulgogi, bibimbap and kimchi-jjigae.
Half-and-half Original
As it was our first time here, we decided to order Half-and-Half serving of Original Chicken and Soy Garlic Chicken (RM67 for 10 pieces).
All of the fried chicken here are made to order so they arrive hot and crispy.
The original chicken did not disappoint. As expected, the skin was crispy and we liked that the seasoning was light and not too salty.
As Chicken House uses canola oil, the chicken tasted clean with no strange aftertaste. The meat was also very tender and juicy. Overall, we still prefer the original chicken at BHC (for both the Korean and local branches) but this is probably the second best we’ve tried in KL.
We prefer the Soy Garlic
Which led to our preference for the Soy Garlic Chicken.
Compared to other Soy Garlic chicken we tried, we liked that the seasoning was not cloyingly sweet or thick.
We rather liked the light sweetness and saltiness of the seasoning with a soft garlicky hit and a mild sweetness that did not distract from the freshness of the chicken. This chicken also paired well with the salt-pepper condiment.
Kimchi-jjigae is nice
We were also pleasantly surprised by the Kimchi-Jjigae (RM28). We found the stew to be quite balanced in flavours – not too sour, not too sweet or spicy. It was one of the better kimchi-jjigae we’ve eaten recently.
Summary
If you’re looking for an authentic local Korean chimaek experience, we are happy to recommend this spot. We’ll be back!
