Chong Thoong Kee in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) is probably our favourite spot for Ipoh hor fun in the PJ/TTDI area.
Fresh chicken slices, flavourful broth and succulent prawn wantans – Chong Thong Kee never fails to satisfy our cravings for a hearty bowl of Ipoh hor fun. Most importantly, the hor fun is always silky smooth.
Our usual choice is the Soup Hor Fun with added Prawn Wantans (RM9.50) and extra chicken breast serving on the side. Soup is well balanced – yielding a clean taste of the prawn stock enhanced with chives and prawn oil on the top. The chicken breast is tender and topped with lovely sweet-savoury sauce.
Soup is full of prawn-y goodness!

Today, we finally tried the Dry Hor Fun – it turned out to be pretty yummy too. The sauce is thick with a nice savoury-sweet combination that goes well when mixed together with the hor fun.

All mixed up!
Chicken rice and bean sprouts are also offered here. To be honest, the prawn wantans cannot beat Chan Thong Kee’s in Jalan Imbi, KL but it’s good enough for us.
Chong Thoong Kee is not to be confused with Chan Thong Kee (no relation at all – but Max’s favourite in downtown KL) but is related to TK Chong in Damansara Perdana. We definitely prefer this to TK Chong as the latter seems to use a lot of MSG in its soup and is just not as good.
