[Dec 2022 UPDATE: Dancing Fish is a Bib Gourmand entry in the 2023 Michelin Guide KL and Penang list. Check out our Michelin post here]
[Halal] We finally checked out this establishment for their famous dish – Dancing Fish. The presentation is very cool – the fish really looks like it is dancing/jumping.
Dancing Fish in Bangsar Shopping Centre
The fish was nicely fried with tender flesh in crunchy batter. We took ours with mango kerabu with provided some nice sweet, sour taste. At RM51, we thought it was a bit pricey for a tilapia fish.
Tauhu Telur and Dendeng Belado
The Tauhu Telur (RM14) was quite nice – both in presentation and taste. It is like a leaning tower made of tofu and flossy egg and served with tangy sambal.
The Dendeng Belado (RM22) was different than what we expected of the traditional Indo dish. The Aussie tenderloin strips were actually soft and tender deep-fried and deep-fried in savoury-sweet batter. However, it was not very spicy – in line with traditional Minang dishes.
The Kailan Salted Egg (RM16) was ok-oklah and so was the turmeric rice.
Skip the desserts – Ice Kacang, Cendol, Mango Lolo – you can get better ones elsewhere.
