Dante Carlos Pizzeria in Kepong

Dante Carlos Pizzeria is located on Jalan Burung Pucung, which is close to the Sunday Pasar Malam and our Restoran Yuan Kee (see our post here).
It is quite easy to miss this spot driving along the road except for the neon pizza sign out front. However, a step into the place reveals a comfortable closed-up restaurant with plenty of air-conditioning to keep heads cool and tummies satiated.
Pizzas and more

Dante Carlos Pizzeria offers 17 types of pizza in two sizes – the typical 10-inch pie that yields six slices of goodness, and the 14-inch thin slice pizza that yields eight slices.
The selection here is a mix of fun and traditional with pies like Babi Dalam Hutan and CheeseSin served alongside Magherita and Porky Salami.
The word play is a reflection of interesting toppings such as Pork Rendang, Mortadella paired with pistachio, and the interesting jackfruit-chicken pairing.
Dante Carlos also serves spaghetti and pies.
Babi Dalam Hutan

For our first visit, we ordered the Babi Dalam Hutan (RM37) which is their version of pork bacon and arugula.

In the thin crust form, the pizza base had a nice crunch which worked well with the toppings. The cheese and tomato base were moist and flavorful with enough tanginess and richness – which served as a perfect bed for the savoury bacon. The generous amount of arugula provided a hint of bitterness to cut though the flavours.
Pista Jio Della

We also enjoyed the Pista Jio Della (RM60) which features an interesting combo of 150g Mortadella, pistachio bits and sweet basil.
Due to the heaviness of the toppings, this pizza is only served in the traditional 10-inch pie, which has a lovely chewy texture.

This combo really works as the nutty pistachio bits contrasted well with the mild cured pork slices.
Babi Berenang and Red Roses

For our second visit, we tried the Babi Berenang (RM38) and Red Roses (RM40).

The former is a worthy interpretation of local flavours with the combo of pork rendang and potatoes on pizza. It’s mildly spicy and we loved the addition of kaffir lime leaves to the dish.

The Red Roses features beef brisket strips and baby spinach as toppings, but do note that the beef briskets are cured meat in case you’re expecting unprocessed BBQ brisket slices.
Conclusion
All in, we enjoyed the pizzas here and we also commend the excellent service by Mimi and team.
