[Halal] After lunch today, we wandered and stumbled upon this cozy spot for coffee and cake.
Orange poppy seed muffin
The Orange Poppy Seed Muffin was huge (err, slightly bigger than an average Malaysian-Chinese man’s fist?) for RM7. But more importantly – it was actually good.
It is sufficiently moist with a nice orange-y tang and not very sweet. Love the addition of orange rind to the muffin.
Fruit baklava
The lovely owner was kind enough to let us sample their Fruit Baklava.
My friend – who loves loves loves baklava (she said yes to the offer too quickly, lol) – thought it was amazing!
The baklava was warm with layers of filo pastry that’s flaky and light, and held together well by honey.
The use of fruits instead of nuts was exciting – and surprisingly not overbearingly sweet. In fact, I did enjoy the natural acidity and sweetness of the fruits.
We detected orange, plum, rose water and almonds. My friend loved it so much – she bought one for her folks back home (baklava is sold by the gram).
Hot chocolate spiced with cayenne, salt and cinnamon powder
The Hot Chocolate (RM12) here was also a pleasant surprise. The drink was lightly spiced with cayenne powder, Himalayan salt, and cinnamon powder to provide some levity to a potentially hefty drink.
This is a real hidden gem in Plaza Damas – they recently moved here from Plaza Damansara. We spotted some Persian/Mediterranean items on the menu.
