[Non-halal] What’s up, duck?
Ming visited this place ages ago and remembered the delicious roasted duck served here. It seems that Max had eaten here once with her – but he lupa already.
Anyways, with refreshed eyes and unbiased taste buds – we checked out Restoran De’ Champion Duck here in Bandar Menjalara.
And yes – can confirm that the duck here is still superb!
Roast duck
The Roast Duck was tender and juicy, with a hint of herbal taste. We really like that they were not heavy-handed with the seasoning, so we could actually taste the natural sweetness of the dark meat.
As for the skin – it was perfectly cracklin’ and crisp with a nice sheen to it. The cuts served were not too fatty or oily either.
Honey Char Siew
The Honey Char Siew here was also out to impress – nicely caramelised edges with a good meat-to-fat ratio (i.e. not too fat). The charred parts were not too sweet or overly burnt – which is nice – and it’s not as indulgent as those superbly fatty char siew. This is a win in our books.
The accompanying sauce was thick, mildly sweet with a smoky flavour to it.
We also enjoyed the Watercress Soup (RM6) here. Boiled with only veggies and meat, the soup was sweet and did not have dried squid, which is our preference.
They also serve Hot & Sour Mustard Green Stew (suen lat choy 菜尾) but it was not available that day.
Both meat dishes here are on the pricier side – RM24 for 200g duck and RM22 for char siew – but the quality justifies the premium.
They also have a stall in SS2 Medan Selera operated by the chef’s son.
