[Pork-free] We returned to Alta Cafe recently!
After tasting some really good pasta and burger from Alta during lunch (check out our previous post here), we knew we had to check out their dinner service.
Operating from 6pm until late from Thursdays to Saturdays – Alta offers a more intimate setting compared to the day with the lights dimmed.
Nevertheless, the atmosphere remains informal with attentive and friendly service from the staff.
Alta Cafe at night
Loosely inspired by European wine bars, the dinner menu here rotates and changes regularly.
Do check out their menu online here to know what to expect.
Alta Cafe in the day
For lunch, check out the post of our previous visit here. Do note that the menu has changed since then.
Alta burger
During a recent visit with friends (not documented) last month, we enjoyed the Alta Burger and the Orecchiette Pasta and anchovies. We also ate the Alta Burger at its pop-up stall at Tiffin at the Yard. Read the post here.
Cheese on Toast
Cheese on toast
Back to the dinner service. We kicked the evening off with Cheese on Toast (RM34). It’s essentially a slice of brie on unleavened lavash bread and drizzled with natural honey.
We like that the brie is mild and lightly charred, with lovely sweetness from the honey.
Gnocchi
Gnocchi
The Gnocchi (RM54) was served with a generous portion of shaved fresh truffles, snow peas, and morels (a type of edible fungus).
The gnocchi had a nice soft pillowy texture to it – which is lovely – and nice charred bits.
They were also served warm and had sufficient potato taste. The truffles were nice but don’t expect a robust flavour as fresh truffles are mild and earthy-tasting.
Angus Striploin
Angus striploin
The 150g of Angus Striploin (RM88) was another treat. The meat was tender and juicy with lovely accents from the house gremolata sauce (we taste parsley and garlic).
The brown butter is also a nice touch for a hint of nuttiness, while the squeeze of lemon gives a bit of zing to the palate.
Verdict
Overall, we enjoyed the meal, even though portions were smaller than what we would have preferred.
It is definitely on the pricier side from a portion-to-price perspective, but we conclude that the premium is assigned to the kitchen’s culinary skills and knowledge, and uniqueness of ingredients.
We recommend Alta’s dinner service for a casual tipple and catch-up with close friends.
