Fat Boon ABC Ais Kacang
[Non-halal] Fat Boon ABC Ais Kacang in Kepong is a popular local spot for shaved iced desserts.
Fat Boon ABC offers more than 10 types of shaved ice desserts, including ABC, cendol, red bean sago, and longan tofu.
However, the two most popular desserts here are the Mango Sago and Taro Sago.
Fat Boon ABC Ais Kacang in Kepong
Fat Boon ABC Ais Kacang operates along the popular wai sei kai or food street in Kepong Baru.
This street is known for its row of food stalls that operate from morning to night. Fat Boon, in particular, opens from 12.30 pm until 11 pm daily (closed on Thursdays).
While Fat Boon is known for their desserts, patrons would also come here for the Chinese stir-fry dishes. During our visit, we spotted a number of tables ordering the Hokkien Mee and claypot loh shi fun.
Taro/Yam sago is full of yam
Since we already had lunch nearby, we only dropped by for their dessert, and ordered their two top orders – Mango Sago and Taro Sago.
For RM11, the Taro Sago is one of the most generous portions we’ve seen for the price.
With shaved ice as the base, the dessert is topped with evaporated milk, yam paste, cendol, sago and lots of real yam cubes.
This dessert is sure to please anyone who loves yam as the yam flavours are really prominent. It was actually not very sweet – which means very nice in “aunty talk”.
The yam cubes are soft and extra fragrant as they are cooked in santan.
Generous mango chunks in the mango sago
The generous portion is also seen for the Mango Sago.
For only RM8, we received a huge bowl of shaved ice topped with real mango chunks, evaporated milk, sago, mango sauce, gui lin gou (grass jelly), and jelly cubes.
While the mango sago is slightly sweeter than the yam sago, we still consider it not that sweet. The real highlight is the chunks of real mango flesh in the desserts which probably amount to almost a whole fruit without the seed.
Summary
Apart from the two desserts we tried above, Fat Boon is also known to serve a good Ais Kacang topped with thick Gula Melaka.
Obviously we did not try it as the generous portion of the two desserts was more than enough for us, especially after a heavy lunch.
