[Non-halal] The Chee Cheong Fun at Genting Cafe, Penang comes highly recommended by a few foodies.
However, we’ve found that it is just not suited to our palate.
Infused with peanut butter
We like our Penang-style black sauce to have a strong heh kou (shrimp paste) taste. This stall is known to infuse their sauce with peanut butter, which we found to be quite overpowering. We actually wished the heh kou caramelisation was more pronounced.
Nevertheless, Ming thought the rolled flat noodles texture was excellent – soft, sticky and pillowy. However, Max prefers his noodles to be less sticky and doused with more sesame oil.
Genting Cafe Penang is popular
Overall, this CCF is not for us. But it is quite popular as most tables had a plate when we were here.
If you’re in the area, do give it a try as it might be suited to your tastebuds. Taste is subjective and personal, after all.
