GoMeaw โกแมวต้มข้าว in Chiang Mai
[Non-halal] No hype, no Michelin recommendation. GoMeaw โกแมวต้มข้าว is one of our favourite meals we had in Chiang Mai.
Located in Nimman, GoMeaw โกแมวต้มข้าว is a humble stall that serves delicious Thai porridge for breakfast. The stall is clean, the food is delicious and this was the only spot we visited twice during our Chiang Mai trip.

GoMeaw is located on Nimmanahaeminda Road and just next to the popular and award-winning Roast8ry Coffee Flagship Store.
We’ve eaten at a few Michelin-recommended restaurants in Chiang Mai and often found the food to be quite mixed.
Hence, we were craving for a simple but delicious bowl of porridge/congee and GoMeaw happens to be located quite close to our hotel (G Nimman) and decided to check it out for breakfast one day.

Max had tasted Thai-style porridge in the past – which is similar to the Cantonese-style porridge in terms consistency, but the toppings are usually added at the end.
GoMeaw’s porridge is quite unusual and interesting to us. The base porridge comes with the standard toppings of dried shrimps, mushrooms, octopus, crispy pork lard, minced pork with garlic, coriander and taro cubes.
You then have the option of adding toppings such as half-boiled egg, garlic shrimp, crispy Chinese sausage, crispy chicken skin and seaweed to the porridge.
GoMeaw porridge with minced pork and onsen egg
At THB80 (USD2.30) per bowl, we enjoyed the porridge with minced pork and onsen egg.
Due to the many different base toppings such as dried shrimps, pork lard and taro cubes – the base porridge was already very tasty on its own. The onsen egg gives the porridge additional creaminess with garlicky hits from the minced pork.
GoMeaw porridge with everything!
Max couldn’t help but order Set D (THB140 or USD4) which comprises everything they have on the menu.
We enjoyed this as all the toppings (egg, sausage, seaweed, minced pork, chicken skin, garlic shrimp) came well together to make for a very flavourful porridge. If you’re expecting a bland bowl of porridge – this was definitely not it.
Summary
GoMeaw opens from 6.30am until 10.30am and makes for a great breakfast option if you’re in the area and craving for something simple and delicious.
We enjoyed the porridge so much that we had it as our last meal before boarding our flight home. RECOMMENDED!
