[Non-halal] Fancy some burrata on your pizza? Heritage Pizza at The Row KL is one of three popular Italian restaurants located close to each other in the area.
We have yet to try the other two (they are on our list), but here’s a short write up of our experience here at Heritage Pizza.
Heritage Pizza at The Row
Opened amid the start of the pandemic in 2020, Heritage Pizza boasts of a Verona-built stone oven in its kitchen and a Milan-born owner at the helm.
The menu here is simple. Pizzas are the focus – from staple offerings such as Margherita (RM30) and Capricciosa (RM45), to specials such as Bottarga (RM62) and Burrata & Anchovies (RM88).
The pizza dough here is fermented for 48 hours before spending three minutes in the wood-fired oven at 360°C.
This results in blistered pies with a flavoursome and chewy centre, and a crust that’s crispy and beautifully charred.
In other words, the pies have a nice combo of crispy and chewiness.
Heritage Pizza – classic pies and more
The classic Margherita (cheese, tomato, basil leaves on dough) is the usual benchmark to gauge a pizzeria’s proficiency. And it costs only RM30 here.
There are 14 pizzas offered here (including a Calzone), with cold cuts being the other savoury non-pizza item on the menu.
However, we decided to head straight for something more exciting and ordered the Beef Diavola (RM39), and Parma (RM54) with Buffalo Burrata (RM28) on top.
Beef Diavola
Literally called Devil Pizza in Italian, Heritage’s Beef Diavola (RM39) is topped with beef pepperoni, tomato sauce and charred chillies on top.
This was lovely. We’ve described the dough above as having a nice combo of chewiness and char (for both pies we ordered) – so let’s just talk about the toppings.
The tomato sauce here is juicy with a good balance of sweet and mild sourness, and the fior di latte (mozzarella made with fresh cow’s milk) is light and sweeter compared to the usual buffalo mozzarella.
The dough, tomato and cheese make for a good foundation – and the lovely charred green chillies provided a nice heat (more middling, not intense) and sourness. Think pickled chillies but Italian. The chillies went well with the pepperoni.
Overall, an enjoyable pizza but not enough to eclipse the other one we ordered, which is the…
Parma with Burrata
This Parma pizza was simply sensational.
The lovely thinly-sliced parma ham is sweet, salty and succulent – its salty notes really contrasted well with the bitter and peppery rocket leaves and sour-sweet cherry tomatoes.
We always enjoyed Parma ham for its inherent sweetness (vs. cured hams from other regions which can be quite salty), and this was perfect for the pie.
However, the added burrata (fresh cow milk cheese) on top really sends it home – as the delicate, creamy curd provides a lovely counterpoint to the parma ham. It’s deliziosa!
Verdict
We really enjoyed both the pizzas here. We recommend making reservations early to avoid disappointment.
Besides pizzas and cold cuts, Heritage Pizzas also serves desserts such as affogato, sorbets and gelato.
