Ipoh Famous Ayam Tauge & Koitiau Damansara Utama – Chicken Rice Worth the Hype
[Non-halal] Chicken rice so good that Jackson Wang visited this place twice – and just like him, we keep coming back for more.

Tucked within a commercial square packed with makan spots, Ipoh Famous Ayam Tauge & Koitiau is easy to miss. After all, it sits on the same row as heavyweights like Village Park Restaurant, with Damansara Hokkien Mee anchoring the other end.
But once you find it, chances are – you’ll keep coming back. We certainly did.
Steamed chicken

First, the steamed chicken here is seriously good. The real star? That soy sauce mix. Fragrant, savoury, and just the right kind of addictive – it clings onto the chicken and rice like it knows exactly what it’s doing. Both the kampung and regular chicken deliver, so you really can’t go wrong.
Koitiau – so slipper, so smooth

Then there’s the koitiau. Flown in from Ipoh, it’s everything you want – smooth, slippery, and just a little bit seductive. The broth carries that distinct hint of rock sugar sweetness, layered with a gentle umami depth from prawn stock. Clean, comforting, and quietly confident.
We’re better taugeh-ther!

And the taugeh? Proper Ipoh-style—plump, juicy, and unapologetically crunchy. The kind that snaps back just enough to keep things interesting.

The ikan parang fish balls and fish cakes hold their own too—nothing flashy, but solid supporting cast members that round out the meal nicely.
They’re open till 10pm, which makes this a reliable spot when chicken rice cravings hit later in the day.
RECOMMENDED!
