New Petaling Kam Kee Seafood Restaurant PJ
[Non-halal] Kam Kee Seafood Restaurant is located in Old Town Petaling Jaya.
This family-run restaurant has been operating since 1969 – and is well-known among the locals here for its home-style Chinese cooking.
New Petaling Kam Kee Seafood

Just like any dai chows, Kam Kee Seafood offers quite a range of Chinese dishes – ranging from seafood dishes to noodles.

The restaurant offers two floors of dining space, with an outdoor area which is quite comfortable on a cool evening.
A touch of Korean flair?

Aside from your usual Chinese-style dishes such as Sweet Sour Pork and Steamed Asam Fish, Kam Kee has a few curious Korean-inspired dishes on the menu.

One of them is Kam Kee Jajangmyeon, which is a type of dark sauce noodles with the addition of julienned cucumbers and nam yu for a slight tangy hit.
There’s also Gangnam Mee – which appears to be a derivation of Cantonese Style Noodles with the addition of century egg and capsicum.
Obviously, we had to try both in three separate visits here.
Kam Kee Jajangmyeon and Gangnam Mee

The Kam Kee Jajangmyeon (RM11) was quite an interesting take on the Korean black bean noodles, and we kinda liked it.

Kam Kee uses the thick noodles (that are used for Hokkien Mee and Lam Mee), with a dark sauce that has nice tangy hints due to the addition of cucumbers and nam yu. There’s also a soft chilli kick in the ensemble. We think this is a good alternative to the Hokkien Mee, if you want to try something different.

However, we thought the Gangnam Mee (RM23 for two pax) was just OK. The broth is similar to Cantonese Yee Mee but more diluted and tasted quite similar except for the addition of century egg. Nothing too spectacular – in our view.

We did enjoy the Fried Rice (RM11) as it had enough wok hei, and wasn’t too dry or wet. Protein comes in the form of sliced lap cheong and small prawns.
Braised Pork Belly with Yam

As for dishes, the Braised Pork Belly with Sliced Yam (RM35) was probably the one we tried here.
The sliced pork belly had a good meat-and-fat ratio, tender with lovely flavours from the gravy. The sliced yam was thick and soft as well.

We also enjoyed the Homemade Beancurd (RM13) here with minced pork as the were fresh and topped with a generous amount of minced pork and pickled radish.

The Home Town Steamed Tilapia (RM55) does the job as the fish was fresh and tender. The gravy was similar to Teochew-style but with the addition of wood ear fungus for a touch of earthiness.

We are less enthused about the Sweet and Sour Pork (RM18) as we tasted more skin and batter instead of solid meat.
Conclusion
We are quite pleased with a few dishes here, while some are just OK – which is what you can say for most typical daichows. All in, we think Kam Kee Seafood should have something to please everyone (including a few unique Korean-inspired dishes), and prices are reasonable as well.
