Kedai Makanan Kim Poh
[Non-halal] For classic charcoal claypot chicken rice, check out Kedai Makanan Kim Poh in Segambut.
Operating for over 40 years, Kim Poh is one of the few establishments that still cook this dish over charcoal fire.
Similar to our favourite one in Pudu, expect to wait for at least 20 minutes as each pot is cooked to order from scratch.

For RM20, the claypot was sufficient to feed two of us. The rice was moist, flavourful and aromatic. Stronger hints of old ginger and just enough smokiness from the charcoal without being burnt. The chicken pieces were tender.
The salted fish are served on the side. Surprisingly, it wasn’t too salty on its own and it appears to be cooked with ginger to temper the salty hits.
Both the Watercress Soup and Old Melon Soup were good complements to the rice.
The place was clean despite the age, and the service was attentive. The master at the flames were friendly as well.
Definitely a place to check out if you’re craving for claypot chicken rice in the area.
