Kee Heong Bak Kut Teh, Klang
[Non-halal] Kee Heong Bak Kut Teh (BKT) is one of the older establishments dishing out bowls of piping “meat bone tea” soup in Klang.
Operating since the 1960s, Kee Heong claims that the founder’s father had come up with the recipe for this dish by adding herbs to a stew of meat and bones.
Kee Heong had since expanded to a few branches in Malaysia and Singapore – but the original branch here in Taman Eng Ann remains a favourite spot for enthusiasts.

This branch opens daily from 7am until 9pm – except for Mondays when it closes early at 3pm.
As BKT is a popular breakfast dish for locals, the restaurant can be quite packed from morning until lunch. Hence, some of the best cuts tend to sell out by the afternoon.

Nevertheless, we managed to get some great cuts when we visited Kee Heong for dinner at 6.30pm – with only the pork belly completely sold out. Even then, there were plenty of local families here enjoying their dinner.

We managed to order a serving of goh hui (five flower meat aka five layers of meat and fat) in the claypot (RM19) and an individual bowl of tua kut (big bones) for RM18.

A serving of rice, char kuih (RM2) and lettuce (RM10) completed our meal.
Aromatic soup, tender meat

In recent years, we prefer to have our BKT served in claypots as it tends to keep the soup hot for longer duration.
We found the soup here to be mild in herbal flavour, while the fattiness/oily was not as thick as those served at Mo Sang Kor and Ah Her.

In other words, we think the soup is quite balanced although we prefer a slightly more herbal touch.
As for the cuts, the goh hui was adequately tender – although not as tender as the half-lean-half-fat cut that we prefer.

The tua kut here is huge with a good mix of lean meat and collagen-rich fat which should please those who like this combo.
Conclusion
All in, Kee Heong serves a decent bowl of Klang-style BKT.
Nevertheless, Weng Heong BKT remains our top pick in Klang as we prefer the stronger herbal notes and better cuts.
