[Non-halal] Find hearty Gamjatang 감자탕 (pork back bone stew) at Kitchen GoHeung in Mont Kiara.
This Korean restaurant specialises in Gamjatang, a Korean stew made from pork bones, with potatoes, cabbage and green onion. This dish is best enjoyed on a rainy day.
Kitchen GoHeung in Mont Kiara
Located in Mont Kiara, Kitchen GoHeung offers a selection of comfort K-dishes such as Bibimbap, Kimchi Fried Rice and Tteokbokki.
However, this restaurant is mainly known for Gamjatang, which is a pork bone stew served with potatoes.
While GoHeung’s version lack the core ingredient of perilla leaves, the stew was more than adequate to satisfy our cravings on a rainy day.
Gamjatang at Kitchen GoHeung
We ordered the Gamjatang for two – which costs RM70. The stew comes with the usual banchan.
You can opt for three spicy levels for the stew. Ming found the first level to be adequately spicy with heat that slowly builds up. Max had no problems with the heat level at all.
Among the banchan, we enjoyed the kimchi and breaded tofu the most.
Good portion for the Gamjatang
We found the portion for the Gamjatang to be quite decent for two – with five huge chunks of pork bones with meat that literally falls off the bone.
The potatoes were also tender, with plenty of mushrooms, cabbage and green onions to meet your fibre needs.
We enjoyed the broth. Thanks to the pork bones – the broth had deep umami with heat from chilli peppers. The pork is best enjoyed with cabbage on a spoonful of rice.
Add-ons are available
We added Rice (RM5) and Ramyeon (RM10) with the former to soak up all the flavours at the end of the meal. You can also add Grilled Mackarel, Steamed Egg and Tofu for a fuller meal.
Summary
Overall, we enjoyed our meal here at Kitchen GoHeung. Service was prompts and friendly. The Gamjatang was really enjoyable when we visited the restaurant on a rainy evening.
