Lian Heng Pan Mee in Subang
[Non-halal] Lian Heng Pan Mee in USJ1 is said to serve one of the best pan mee in Subang Jaya.
We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance when we were in the area, and decided to check it out.
Lian Heng Pan Mee in USJ1
When we arrived at noon on a Saturday, Lian Heng Pan Mee was packed with a waiting line.
Thankfully, we were able to get a table almost immediately and had our orders promptly put in.
Traditional pan mee soup
Reviews seem to be a bit mixed on the Interweb, with some deeming the soup either too bland or too salty.
However, we found the Traditional Pan Mee Soup here to be quite balanced.
We opted for the hand-pinched noodles (our favourite) and the one here did not disappoint. The noodles were adeptly pulled to a thin texture but without sacrificing the “QQ” bite.
We liked the generous amount of manicai (sayur manis) added to sweeten the anchovy-based broth. The soup also gets more flavourful over time with the minced pork seasoning and crispy fried anchovies being slowly absorbed into the broth.
Dry pan mee soup was just ok
We thought the Dry Pan Mee Soup was just okay in our books. While the noodle texture was good, the sauce was a bit too sweet for our liking. The accompanying soup was also a bit bland vs. the soup used for the traditional pan mee soup.
Nevertheless, the portion was quite decent and the dish comes with sliced pork, pork balls, manicai, minced pork, and fried anchovies. The addition of a poached egg gives it a nice creaminess.
The accompanying chilli was quite fragrant and was needed to elevate the dry pan mee dish.
Summary
While not the best we’ve tried, we won’t hesitate to come here for the traditional pan mee soup if we’re in the area.
As you can tell, we much prefer the soup to the dry version.
