[Pork-free] Lilian’s Cake House is a lovely family-owned cake house in Mont Kiara.
Lilian started as a home baker before launching an online cake shop in March 2020.
Earlier this year, Lilian opened this physical store with a lovely cozy retro theme to enjoy chiffon cakes and tea lattes.
Lilian’s Cake House in Mont Kiara
A bit of history: Lilian is a self-taught home baker who started baking for her friends and family years ago.
With the help of her daughter, Lilian opened her online store at the onset of the pandemic in 2020.
While Lilian focuses on baking, her daughter handles the marketing, social media, and aspects of the business.
The duo then opened this physical store in March 2023, with a much bigger kitchen space for Lilian to fulfill her online baking orders, while offering a comfortable space for customers to savor her delectables.
Lilian’s Cake House serves lovely chiffon cakes
Lilian’s specialty is her chiffon cakes – which she had perfected throughout the years through many trials and errors.
When one mentions chiffon cakes, one would immediately think of soft and fluffy cakes baked in angel food cake pans (the ones with the hole in the middle) that are commonly found in night markets.
However, Lillian’s chiffon cakes are definitely elevated as she uses only premium ingredients (organic flour, no artificial flavours or additives) to achieve a soft and fluffy texture, and flavours that are rich and natural.
The famous Houjicha Chiffon Cake
Lilian’s favourite (and best-selling) cake is the Houjicha Chiffon Cake (RM19 per slice).
Inspired by her daughter’s favourite drink Houjicha Latte, we enjoyed this cake very much.
The chiffon itself was really rich in Houjicha taste, and not overtly sweet. The cake also has the perfect chiffon texture in terms of fluffiness and lightness.
We loved that the chiffon cake is layered and topped with natural whipping cream that is infused with Houjicha (and not flavouring) which gives it a nice creamy mouthfeel.
Earl Grey Chiffon Cake
Besides Houjicha, daily staples here include the Chocolate, Pandan, and Earl Grey Chiffon Cakes.
However, some of the flavours are very popular and are often sold out by 3 pm (which is the case when we visited Lilian’s twice last month).
Lillian would also occasionally serve special flavours such as Black Sesame, Genmaicha, and Orange Chiffon.
We also tried the Earl Grey chiffon cake on our second visit.
While the texture was beautiful (soft, fluffy, and moist), we wished it had a stronger Earl Grey flavour.
Iced Matcha Latte and Honey Citron Tea
Drinks available at Lilian’s Cake House include Iced Matcha Latte, Houjicha Latte, and Genmaicha Latte (RM14-16).
While we are not regular matcha drinkers, we enjoyed the Matcha latte as it was quite rich in taste and not diluted.
The Iced Honey Citron Tea (RM14) was a nice thirst quencher too as it was citrus-y and refreshing.
Summary
All in, we really enjoyed the Houjicha Chiffon Cake here – which we ordered on both visits.
Friends had also raved about the Chocolate and Pandan flavours – which we will hope to try in the next round.
We recommend coming early (they open at 11 am) if you don’t wanna miss out on some of their flavours.
