Magnificent Park Bakery in PJ
[Pork-free] Magnificent Park Bakery takes its name from the residential area that it resides in – as it seeks to become a neighbourhood staple for fresh baked goods.
The play extends beyond its namesake (an English translation of Taman Megah), as the pastry chefs combine French pastries with local flavours to offer creations such as Apam Balik Croissant, Ham Chim Pain (a word play of the Chinese five-spiced Chinese crullers) and Pineapple Banana Danish.
Magnificent Park Bakery in Taman Megah
Magnificent Park Bakery (MPB) occupies a corner shoplot in the busy commercial area of Taman Megah.
Opened since last September, the interior of this cafe/bakery exudes a delightful charm, to accomodate leisurely meals with friends and family.
We particularly enjoyed the bay window seats, which offer a slice-of-life view of the residential area.
A breadth of pastries here at MPB
Helmed by Head Pastry Chef Ken Tan, PMB offers a variety of viennoiseries – ranging from classic croissants to pain au chocolat, and fusion pastries as mentioned above.
Those who can’t live without their daily bread will be pleased to find freshly baked country sourdough loaves, shokupan, and chocolate cranberry sourdough.
Apam Balik Croissant
A first-timer here would likely be attracted to unique offerings such as the Apam Balik Croissant (RM11) – which is a French re-interpretation of the local snack.
At RM11 a pop, it might seem ridiculously priced, but there is a silver of sophistication and creativity imbued to justify the price, in our view.
The requisite flaky and buttery French shell is all there – but the addition of roasted peanuts, sweet corn, and mochi was a master stroke of design. In particular, we loved the touch of sea salt to temper the sweetness of the pastry. This was Max’s favourite of the lot.
Crochujang
K-culture fans would likely be drawn to the Crochujang (RM15) – a combination of cheese, Korean gochujang sauce and chicken in French pastry.
It’s light, slightly sweet, sour and spicy that makes it the favourite for Ming.
Charcoal Croissant Egg Tart
The Charcoal Croissant Egg Tart (RM9) is another popular order here.
The egg custard is delightful, soft and sweet, and compliments the perfect buttery flaky shell.
The custard slightly errs on the “too sweet” side for our taste buds, but it’s nothing a black hot coffee cannot fix.
Summary
We only had tummy space for three pastries that day, and we were satisfied.
The important question – will we come back? The answer is an affirmative yes.
