Makan Time at Kota Damansara
[Pork-free] The Ipoh Kai Si Hor Fun (KSHF) at Makan Time 2.0 is one of the best we’ve tried.
After hearing so many rave reviews about Makan Time 2.0’s KSHF, we were so stoked to see it on its daily special menu last Saturday. And so, we finally ordered it!
Makan Time ‘s Kai Si Hor Fun
For the uninitiated, KSHF is a noodle soup dish made from chicken and prawn broth. It is served with springy hor fun (flat rice noodles) topped with prawns, chicken slices and chives.
This is truly the best KSHF (RM13) for us – it even trumps the one we love in TTDI. Every element was just so well executed – it came together to create the perfect KSHF dish.
Perfect broth, silky smooth noodles
The soup is perfectly balanced (unlike some others which taste overly sweet). It has the right amount of sweetness and umami savouriness.
The flat noodles are also perfectly silky smooth, so much so we struggled to “kiap” (hold) them with our metal chopsticks. It’s really so tender that we can’t help, but to slurp it all up – Japanese ramen style.
Bouncy prawns
The prawns were on another level as well. Not only were they served whole; they were also perfectly fresh and bouncy. They were also flavourful as they were seasoned before cooking.
This added flavour was mind blowing because we have never encountered any KSHF prawns that were prepared like this before. Such yummy prawns!
Finally, the addition of freshly fried shallots completes the dish, with a generous amount of prawn oil for colour and extra umami.
Truly, everything came together so well to become the BEST KSHF we’ve ever tasted.
Fragrant nasi lemak and cham
In addition to the KSHF, we also enjoyed their packet Nasi Lemak (RM2.50) which came with half an egg, sambal and a good amount of ikan bilis. The sambal was sweet and spicy. The nasi is the highlight; it was cukup berlemak (rich in coconut milk taste) as we could taste the fresh santan in every bite.
We also enjoyed the chilled Hainam Cham (RM6 for 460ml bottle). A mix of coffee and tea, the cham was really “kaw” – rich and thick.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
P/S: The KSHF is a Daily Special Dish and is not available daily. Hence, you have to check out their FB page to find out when the dish appears on their rotation. Their other popular dishes include Sarawak laksa, beef tendon kueh teow, and Hainanese Min Chee. They also make Nyonya kuehs on a regular basis, and occasional Thai dishes as well.
