[Pork-free] Maria’s Signature is a hidden gem if you’re looking for dinner with a view in KLCC.
Located in a quieter part of the KLCC Suria Shopping Centre, this steakhouse offers a lovely view of the KLCC Park from the balcony.
Furthermore, the restaurant offers a great front-row view of the KLCC Fountain Show every evening from 7.30 pm.
Maria’s Signature at KLCC
With its origin as a family-run steakhouse in Ipoh, Maria’s is a common destination when one is looking for a good steak in KL.
From its humble beginnings as a small cafe in Ipoh, the Tan family now operates three more steakcafes in the Klang Valley – including the signature outlet here in KLCC.
We’ve eaten at its outlet in Damansara Perdana for more than a decade, so we’re quite happy to visit its signature venue here.
Maria’s Signature offers Wagyu and more
Maria’s is probably one of the first few steakhouses to introduce Wagyu beef on its menu.
As the name implies, Maria’s specialty is steak – but the franchise also serves Beef Wellington, burgers, seafood and pasta as well.
At the highest tier, the Wagyu A5 Miyazaki Striplion goes for RM270 per 100g, but what we liked about Maria’s is that they also serve Black Angus (RM94/g) and grainfed tenderloin (RM110 for 180-220g) to cater to any budget.
We also thought the pricing was decent considering the prime location in KLCC (vs. Mandarian Grill which charges 3x the price here).
Maria’s x Hidden Scoop combo set
During our visit, the restaurant was offering Maria’s x Hidden Scoop RM210set for two.
We thought this was quite a good deal as it includes a starter, soup, main, and Inside Scoop ice-cream for two pax.
Hence, we decided to get this and opted for an upgrade to 230g Australian Black Angus ribeye MB2 for an additional RM138, for one of the mains.
Good salad
We are usually quite skeptical of salads in set meals, hence we were quite surprised by how good these were!
The Orange & Baby Spinach salad was very refreshing due to the addition of orange pulps complementing the cheese and walnuts. We are fans of light dressing as we like to taste the natural flavours of the ingredients – and this was on point.
Similarly, the Yoghurt and Kale salad was lightly dressed to highlight the earthy flavours of kale, with crisp sweetness coming from sliced apples and raisins.
Hearty soups
We had no real complaints about the soup as well. The Mushroom Soup was creamy and hearty with plenty of mushroom flavours.
However, we did think the Pumpkin Soup was slightly watery, although it had enough pumpkin flavours.
Black Angus Ribeye MB2
Cooked medium rare, we enjoyed our slab of Australian Black Angus ribeye MB2.
The meat was cooked to perfection with some nice char, while retaining its juiciness. It was also sufficiently seasoned, hence we didn’t really need the mustard on the side.
The steak was served with some crispy fried onions and asparagus.
Solid Grilled Salmon
The Grilled Salmon Fillet was also cooked well to yield tender flesh with a lovely citrusy sweetness. The fish is served with grilled veggies and potatoes.
Here’s the Inside Scoop ice-cream
We ended the meal with three generous scoops of Inside Scoop vanilla and Valrhona chocolate ice-cream each.
The latter is still the best-tasting chocolate ice-cream flavour in Malaysia – so we’re quite happy with this.
Summary
Overall, we think that Maria’s Steakcafe is still one of the best places for decent steak in KL.
The dining experience here was extra enjoyable due to the view of KLCC Park and its water fountain show.
