[Non-halal] Ain’t no partay like a ramen partay!
We heard so many great things about this place, so we were pretty excited to finally try Menya Shi-Shi Do! We went all out! Since it’s my first time, I ordered the shiro soup as a point of reference to the other soup flavours. The verdict: milky, flavourful, umami-rich pork bone broth that is close to perfection. It was so good on its own!.
Yaki buta shiro ramen
evertheless, I HAD to top my noodles with the Yaki Buta (RM29) option – perfectly caramelised BBQ pork belly with melt-in-the-mouth fat and tender meat. Soooo indulgent but soooo good! In fact, I think this trumps its standard pork shoulder chasu slices.
Kura + aka ramen
Kura + shiro ramen
The other two soup base we tried were Kura (black garlic), and Aka (spicy). If you like garlic and/or spicy, you really cant go wrong with these choices – they should satisfy your cravings. There is also the option to mix two soup bases – but i suggest trying out their single soup bases first (or come with many friends, like we did!) Noodles were served al-dente with a nice bite and chewiness, and ajitama eggs were on point.
Tsukumen
Tsukumen lovers should be satisfied too with the perfect, thick and flavourful dipping broth.
Forget Ippudo and Ichiran, we believe Menya Shi-Shi is the closest thing to authentic Hakata-style ramen from Fukuoka. Come with a voracious appetite and leave satisfied. There’s usually a queue here, so come early for lunch.
