Our hunt for the best chicken ramen continues at Menya Takeichi, Publika in Solaris Dutamas.
It appears that Menya Takeichi is an offshoot of the original shop in Tokyo – touted as the No.1 spot for collagen-rich chicken ramen. No matter, we got #chickywithit and ordered the staples.
Special shoyu chicken ramen
Tender chicken chasu Chicken balls
Special Shoyu (soy) Chicken Ramen (RM28.80) comes with addition of chicken chasu, seasoned egg and seaweed. Broth was very rich and creamy. We like that the chasu slices were tender and flavourful. Chicken was confirmed fresh without that “defrosted chicken taste”
Special shio chicken ramen
Slurp… Chicken chasu
Special Shio (salt) Chicken Ramen (RM29) – The broth has a more unadulterated salty taste profile vs. the shoyu soup – but still umami-rich. For some reason, the shio ramen comes with saffron as well.
Overall, we were quite pleased with our bowls – noodles were done well, egg was especially well-seasoned with perfect runny yolk. Opposed to other chicken ramen we tried, the noodles were topped with chopped yellow onion -giving an extra dimension. Tsukumen, light broth and spicy broth ramen are also available here.
Chicken tempura rice bowl
For RM3, you can add chicken tempura rice bowl and edamame – but honestly, the ramen itself was enough for us. Standard in the bowl are minced chicken balls (yum!), and seasoned bamboo shoots.
Menya Takeichi shares the same kitchen as Hokkaido Shokudo – which seems to specialise in Hokkaido-imported sashimi and grilled seafood. The place looks pretty authentic as we did spot a few Japanese eating at the counter while reading manga. #chickenballz
