Mueang Thong Pork Knuckle Rice, Bangkok
[Non-halal] Pork knuckle rice (khao ka moo) is one of our favourite Thai dishes, and we can never get enough of it.
We recently checked out Mueang Thong Pork Knuckle Rice (ขาหมูเมืองทอง), a well-known spot in northern Bangkok near Don Mueang Airport, which serves some of the best khao ka moo in the area.

Operating since 1984, Mueang Thong Pork Knuckle Rice is a popular destination for slow-braised pork knuckle rice.
The original shop is about a 25-minute drive from Don Mueang International Airport, making it a convenient stop if you’re heading to or from the airport.

The restaurant has been recently renovated and now offers a clean, comfortable, air-conditioned dining space.

Plates of stewed pork leg on rice start from THB75 (around USD2.30). In addition to khao ka moo, they also serve siew yoke, char siew, and fried pork.
The food
The two of us ordered the Stewed Pork Leg (THB100) to share, along with Crispy Pork (THB100). We also added Stir-Fried Cabbage and Bittergourd Soup with Ribs (THB65).

The stewed pork was very satisfying. While it wasn’t the most tender we’ve had, the gravy was thick, rich, and packed with umami and warm spices. The skin had a lovely gelatinous softness that paired perfectly with the fragrant jasmine rice.

The siew yoke was less impressive for us. Although the cut and marinade were decent, we found the skin a little too hard to bite into.

The bittergourd soup struck a good balance — pleasantly bitter with a touch of porky sweetness — and worked well to cleanse the palate. The stir-fried cabbage also did its job nicely as a simple, refreshing side.

Conclusion
All in all, Mueang Thong Pork Knuckle Rice is worth a stop if you’re looking for a solid meal near Don Mueang Airport. It’s a local favourite for good reason.
