Pentos & Basil PJ
[Pork-free] After four years of operating in Bukit Jalil, Pentos & Basil has opened a second branch in PJ.
This new spot is located in Seapark PJ – opposite 1MORE PIZZA (see our review here).
Pentos & Basil’s new branch
The original branch in Aurora Place Bukit Jalil had always been quite popular, with reservations mostly required for weekends.
The same can also be said for this new spot when we tried to walk-in within the first month of opening. But we got lucky recently.
Pentos & Basil in PJ
Pentos & Basil has quite a comprehensive menu – from pasta to risotto to duck leg confit and more.
Aside from the usual classics (Carbonara, Pomodoro and Vongole) – Pentos & Basil also offers unique dishes such as Korean Gochujang Salmon, Vietnamese Fish Sauce with Salmon, and Thai Tomyam Seafood Pasta.
Carbonara and Aglio e’ Olio
We tried the Carbonara with Classic Egg Yolk (RM33) with added Beef Meatballs (RM18).
The fresh fettuccine was al-dente, with the base parmesan cheese, pepper and 63°c egg providing a perfect savoury base. The duck bacon was tender and sufficiently savoury – while the added meatballs gave an added protein punch.
We were sticking to classics for dinner – and the Aglio e’ Olio Peperoncino (RM22) was our second pick, with added Grilled Chicken (RM9). The aglio olio does have a more “Asian flair” due to added green peas and cherry tomatoes but it does the job. The grilled chicken was quite a good portion for the price.
Conclusion
Overall, we thought the food was quite decent, and warrants a visit.
