[Non-halal] Another weekend, another fish noodles shop to check out. Our quest for more delicious fish noodles brought us to Pong Kee Seafood Noodles in Taman Kok Lian, off Jalan Ipoh.
Located inside Restoran Hakga, Pong Kee offers various Teochew-style seafood noodles and porridge featuring the freshest seafood of the day.
Pong Kee Seafood in KL
Operating for over 20 years, Pong Kee serves a variety of fresh seafood with your choice of soup/dry noodles or porridge.
Produce available that day includes tiger grouper fish, pomfret, prawns, oysters, and clams.
Clear broth, fresh seafood
For Ming’s bowl, she ordered a bowl of noodles soup with Tiger Grouper fillet.
We found the soup to be light and tasty, with sweetness from the seaweed and lettuce.
Ming found her Tiger Grouper fillet to be fresh (no fishy taste) but a tad overcooked. Nevertheless, the portion were decent for RM20.
Prawns and pomfret
Max opted for the dry noodles with pomfret and a fresh Ming prawn (RM24) in his bowl of soup.
The dry noodles were lightly seasoned to complement the freshness of the seafood, but we did find it a bit soft.
Nevertheless, we both enjoyed the prawn as it was fresh and perfectly cooked to maintain its natural bounce.
A whole pomfret (weighing about 200g we reckon) was served in our bowl. The fish was thoroughly gutted, cleaned and cut into bite-size pieces.
The fish was very delicate and fresh – and we did prefer this to the Tiger Grouper, in terms of texture.
Verdict
Although not the best we’ve tried, we find Pong Kee’s seafood noodles to be decent – thanks to the freshness of seafood, and tasty broth. Pong Kee is worth a visit if you’re craving for seafood noodles in the area.
Besides Pong Kee, there are other stalls in the restaurant selling Bak Kut Teh, Curry Noodles, HK Chee Cheong Fun, and Char Koay Teow.
