Sun Fatt Kopitiam in Pudu
[Non-halal] Find pork noodles and more at Sun Fatt Kopitiam in Pudu.
Located in the flats area in Jalan Gelang, this pork stall occupies a non-descript shop lot opposite Restoran Cai Ji (which is known for their steamed Song fish head – read our review here).
The main reason that drew us to this place was the Smoked Pork Noodles (RM11) – which has an unusual pairing of smoked pork with dry lai fun noodles.
But we also enjoyed the traditional pork noodles and la la meehoon here. Read on to find out more.
Sun Fatt Kopitiam serves pork noodles and more
The stall at Sun Fatt Kopitiam is officially named Wing Kee Pork Noodles, but the best way to get here is to type in “Sun Fatt Kopitiam” on Waze or Google Maps.
We visited this place for lunch twice on two Saturdays, and were able to immediately find a parking spot.
The lady boss of the stall was very cordial and friendly on both occasions – welcoming us to sit inside when she spotted us walking towards the establishment.
The restaurant is clean and comfortable – and we quickly made our order upon seating.
Smoked pork dry noodles
The Smoked Pork Dry Noodles was the main reason we visited this place – as we had never seen such a unique pairing before.
While you can opt for your favourite noodles, the lady boss recommended to pair the smoked meat with lai fun and yellow noodles – which we duly agreed.
So, was it good? Yes.
While the pork resembles a Japanese chasu served with ramen – it has a firmer texture with a smokiness that reminded us of Western smoked pork belly.
It has a more prominent smoky and salty flavour – which went well with the light soy sauce mix of the noodles.
Crispy pork lard and fried shallots add to the enjoyment, and the lai fun’s bouncy texture gives a good contrast to the salty pork slices.
The noodles were complemented by a bowl of flavourful Chinese cabbage soup on the side.
Traditional pork noodles
The Smoked Pork Dry Noodles might have been the one to reel us in – but the real catch of the day was the Traditional Pork Noodles (RM10).
The reasons: a milky soup with natural pork savoury umami; well-marinated minced pork and meat slices; crispy pork lard and a generous portion for the price.
This could be our favourite pork noodles find on this side of town.
On our second visit, we tried the Pork Noodles with Loofah (RM10) – which basically replaces the choy sum with slices of the gourd.
Consistency was not an issue as the broth had the same umami, with sweetness coming from the loofah instead of leafy choy sum. Good stuff!
Lala Beehoon
We also enjoyed the Lala Beehoon.
The clams were fresh and sweet, and the broth was very flavourful with strong ginger and Chinese wine base infused with clam flavours.
Summary
Pudu is truly a trove of amazing food treasures, and this is no exception. RECOMMENDED!
