[Non-halal] For delicious Sarawak Laksa that’s value for money, head over to Restaurant Lin Li Xiang!
Opened in 2020, Restaurant Lin Li Xiang offers authentic Sarawakian delicacies such as Sarawak Laksa, Kolo Mee, Kiaw (dumplings) and Tomato Mee.
We’ve visited the restaurant a few times to try the signature Sarawak Laksa, but they were sold out.
Third time’s the charm for us as we managed to get the last two bowls during our recent trip.
Restaurant Lin Li Xiang in PJ
We arrived at 12.30pm on a Wednesday afternoon. While it was still early for the weekday lunch crowd, we still had to wait 10 minutes minutes for a table to be available, after snagging the last two bowls of laksa.
After we were seated, we promptly made our orders – Sarawak Laksa Biasa (RM10.90), Sarawak Laksa Special (RM15.90) and Three Layer Tea (RM4.90).
While Lin Li Xiang also offers authentic Kolo Mee and Tomato Mee (a rarity in KL) – we were very determined to try the laksa as we’ve only heard great things about it.
Restaurant Lin Li Xiang offers Sarawak Laksa
So, what’s the difference between Sarawak Laksa Biasa and Sarawak Laksa Special?
The standard Sarawak Laksa comes with two prawns, shredded chicken, beansprouts and the usual omellette strips on noodles.
For RM10.90, we thought the portion was already decent.
First impressions – the broth is super umami with a good depth of rempah (spices) and heat that really builds up at the end.
While it’s not the best broth we tasted in PJ (Aunt Christina’s Laksa remains our favourite) – it tasted authentic and similar to the ones we tried in Kuching.
We liked that they used the right type of rice noodles for the dish – which has a more al-dente bite compared to the softer rice vermicelli in KL.
No complaints about the prawns as they fresh, and they were quite generous with the shredded chicken and omelette strips too.
Sarawak Laksa Special – value for money!
However, the Sarawak Laksa Special definitely provides the bang for the buck!
For an additional RM5, the bowl comes with an additional prawn, char siew, kiaw (fried dumplings), and half an omelette!
This was really great value for money!
We enjoyed the char siew – which tasted authentic (fiery red colour and lean) to the Kuching style, and sweet to complement the spicy broth.
The dumplings were crispy too and provided a nice textural contrast to the other elements in the bowl.
Summary
Overall, we were really pleased with our meal here. No complaints about the Three Layer Tea (RM4.90) as well.
While we still prefer Aunt Christina’s Laksa (tastier broth, superior prawns, and we like the generous use of coriander), Lin Li Xiang’s offering is still one of the better ones we ate in PJ.
For the generous portion and additional ingredients, we will not hesitate to recommend the Sarawak Laksa Special. RECOMMENDED!
