Restoran Cai Ji Steamed Fish Head 财记蒸鱼头
[Non-halal] We had a really good steamed Song fish head at Restoran Cai Ji 财记蒸鱼头.
Located at the old flat complex in Jalan Gelang in Pudu, Restoran Cai Ji is a dai chow restaurant that offers delicious Chinese dishes that are good value for money.

We arrived 15 minutes after the dinner service starts at 6pm – and the tables were almost at full occupancy. Clearly, this is quite a popular spot for locals to have dinner. And you know – we Chinese people love to have our dinner early. Be prepared to wait for a table if you come at 7pm.
Upon seated, we promptly made our order – the Signature Song Steamed Fish Head (RM42), Signature Fried Tofu (RM18) and Stir-fry Choy sum (RM18).

According to the leng zai who took our order, the fish head here typically cost about RM42-45 – which is big enough to feed 2-3 pax.
We liked that he was quite good at ensuring the portion was reasonable, as we had no problem finishing most of the three dishes (we had 4 pieces of tofu to tapau at the end of the meal).

So – did the steamed fish head lived up to expectations? Yes!
The fish head is steamed to perfection and served with soy sauce, before it was lavishly garnished with grated ginger, chillies and fried shallots.

This was very good. The fish was steamed to perfection to yield flesh that is smooth, soft and tender. The fish was also very fresh as we could taste the natural sweetness of the fish.
The soy sauce had a nice sweet-savoury balance to accentuate the freshness of the fish. Also, we loved the generous amount of ginger, chillies and fried shallots.
Signature Fried Tofu

Served in only one size, we also enjoyed the Signature Fried Tofu. The exterior was fried to yield a nice crisp, while the the interior remained soft and tender.
According to the lady boss, the tofu is home-made and prepped with fish paste which gives it a distinctive savoury taste.

The Stir-Fry Vegetables was pretty standard and fulfilled its purpose of providing fibre.
Summary
So did we enjoyed the food here? Yes!
We would come back to try the other dishes with more friends. RECOMMENDED!
