Restoran Satellite 33 PJ
[Non-halal] Restoran Satellite has been serving its signature Hainanese chicken rice along Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya since the late 1980s, making it one of PJ’s long-running neighbourhood institutions. In recent years, the team expanded with Restoran Satellite 33 in Seksyen 11 PJ, bringing the same well-loved recipes to another corner of Petaling Jaya.
This branch has become our regular Sunday lunch spot, as we have found the food to be consistently good and satisfying.
Hainanese Chicken Rice in Seksyen 11 PJ
Occupying a corner shoplot in Seksyen 11 PJ, Restoran Satellite 33 sits on the same row as One Half (where we like to get our coffee beans – see post). It is located close to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and Crystal Crown Hotel.
Satellite 33 operates in a humble kopitiam setting, and we found the place to be exceptionally bright and clean.
Our favourite order here is the Steamed Chicken Breast Rice (RM8) with a side of Pork Balls. Less experienced cooks tend to serve this cut dry and tough, but that is not the case at Satellite 33. The chicken breast is tender and naturally sweet, while the soy sauce dressing is savoury and very appetising.
The siew yoke and roasted chicken here are pretty good too. The former retains its crisp crackling skin with a nice fat-to-meat ratio, while the latter is well-seasoned with savoury skin.
Satellite 33 also serves curry noodles, kai si hor fun and wanton mee, making it a satisfying spot for a comforting kopitiam-style meal.
