Restoran Sek Heong, Cheras
[Non-halal] Clean, cheap and delicious – that’s our trinity of criteria when it comes to food.
Opened just for a few months – Restoran Sek Heong in Taman Len Seng, Cheras meets all three requirements.
Operated by a veteran couple in the Cheras F&B scene, Sek Heong offers delectable bowls of kai si hor fun and poached chicken rice. We enjoyed both dishes.
Restoran Sek Heong in Taman Len Seng

Restoran Sek Heong specialises in two of our favourite Chinese dishes in the world – chicken rice and shredded chicken hor fun.

For RM12, the Shredded Chicken Hor Fun here has been perfected by chef KK Lee for 20 years.

Boiled for five hours to yield a robust chicken base, the soup is then lavishly laden with prawn oil – which gives it a distinctive orange hue.

Be it as it may, the prawn umami just has the right amount of hit – which does not distract from the natural sweetness of savourines of the broth. The rice noodles are as smooth as a baby’s bum – and we loved the generous amount of shredded chicken in the bowl.
The two prawns were fresh and succulent.
Free Range Chicken Rice

Sek Heong also specialises in Free Range Poached Chicken. A whole chicken goes for RM90 (and half portion can be had at half the price) but solo eaters can opt for the Hainan Chicken Rice (RM9).
Which we did, because it was just the both of us.
While we prefer breast meat, Sek Heong only offers drumstick for the single portion.

But this was more than OK because the meat was tender, completely deboned and naturally sweet.
Sek Heong only had white rice that day (the oily rice had sold out by 1pm) – but we still enjoyed the dish because it paired well with the smooth chicken.
The ginger paste here is similar to our favourite one at Kong Sai (see our post) – which is to say, we LOVED IT!
It’s fried with oil and soy sauce to really bring out the fragrance that went perfect with the rice.
For fibre, the Poached Bean Sprouts (RM8) more than satisfied with a good crunch and light soy sauce dressing.
Other dishes
Sek Heong also offers dishes for big groups such as Sweet and Sour Pork, Steamed Tiger Grouper and Preserved Veggie Braised Pork that qualifies it as a spot for family dinners.
The chicken rice and hor fun hit the spots! Needless to say – we’ll be back.
