Restoran Soon Fatt Roast Duck in Pudu
[Non-halal] Restoran Soon Fatt Roast Duck has moved from a stall to its own shop in Pudu.
For the longest time, Soon Fatt used to operate in a roadside stall – just next to the popular Little Eat Stall (see our post here).
The new shop is just a few steps away from its old location – and offers a clean and comfortable space for dining in with air conditioning.
We ate here for a quick and simple lunch and enjoyed the food.
Restoran Soon Fatt Roast Duck in Pudu
Operating for close to 30 years, Soon Fatt is known for its Signature Beijing Roast Duck.
However, they also serves the whole variety of siu mei – including roast chicken, char siew and siew yoke.
Our research showed that Soon Fatt’s roast duck is also served at a few branches of Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee. We tapaued once from the DU branch before and enjoyed the duck then.
So the one here should be good right?
Roast Duck and more
Soon Fatt offers two types of roast duck – Signature Beijing style and Sesame Pipa Duck.
A whole bird costs RM85-90, but you can get a quarter for RM25 or an individual serving with rice for RM13.50.
They are also known for their Signature Crystal Honey BBQ Pork.
As Max was in the area for a quick errand on his own, he decided to get the Triple Mix Rice (RM21) with the combination of duck, siew yoke and char siew.
Duck, char siew and siew yoke
Max enjoyed the meal.
The roast duck was tender and moist, with a seasoning thats not too salty or sweet. The skin is soft with just enough fat underneath for a juicy bite.
The siew yoke was also quite decent with crispy skin and a satisfying meat-to-fat ratio.
The char siew is the sticky type (that’s quite similar to the popular Meng Kee in Glenmarie) but thankfully not too. much that it becomes cloying.
We did wish that it had more lean meat though.
Rice was also sufficiently fragrant.
Summary
All in, we were pleased with the meal. We’ll come back to try the dishes in a bigger group.
