Sin Chew Chicken Rice SS3
[Non-halal] Having lived in SS3 for the most part of Max’s adult life (thus far), this is favourite chicken rice in the area.
Sin Chew Chicken Rice is run by a couple who has been in the business for at least 20 years.
The couple used to run a stall at Kuan Yew Coffee Shop (next to Siong Pin where you can find our favourite pork noodles stall – see post here), before it moved to New Pom Pom Restaurant a few years ago.
Sin Chew Chicken Rice in PJ

Sin Chew Chicken Rice is particularly popular with the lunch crowd on weekdays. Do expect to queue here, and people also coming to tapau.

They still use the brown paper for takeaways which actually enhances the flavours, in our view.
Char siew and chicken rice

Max’s favourite order here is the chicken breast and siew yoke combo (RM11).

Five things why we like the chicken rice here:
- Rice is fragrant with enough ginger used in the cooking process. It’s neither too dry nor wet.
- The roast chicken is tender and sweet with a good crisp skin.
- Similarly, the siew yoke has a good meat-to-fat ratio with a nice crackle for the skin.
- The complementary soup here is not an afterthought. You’ll get wholesome Chinese soups such as watercress, ABC and old cucumber on any given day.
- The chilli has enough kick.
After all the years, we are happy to say that Sin Chew Chicken Rice stil ada standard.
