Siru, Desa Sri Hartamas
[Non-halal] Siru (시루) in Desa Sri Hartamas is a new spot specialising in Korean rice cake desserts. Operated by the same Korean owners behind Dubu Dubu and Buldojang, the café is named after the traditional Korean earthenware steamer used to make rice cakes, or tteok.
Siru focuses on traditional Korean rice cakes that are freshly made daily—still relatively niche in KL’s dessert scene.
A hanok-inspired space

Located next to Buldojang, Siru’s interior draws inspiration from traditional Korean hanok aesthetics, featuring wooden accents and paper wall dividers. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a table filled with various types of tteok, ranging from pumpkin seolgi to classic injeolmi and yaksik (sweetened rice with fruits and nuts).

Siru also offers its own version of the Dubai Chewy Cookie—a dessert that’s currently trending in Seoul.

If you’ve been to Jeju, you’ll be pleased to find Osulloc tea on the menu. Coffee beans are sourced from Seoul’s Bean Brothers.
The best way to sample

The best way to explore the menu is through the Today’s Rice Cake Sampler (RM35), a sharing platter featuring six different rice cakes of the day. Ours included two variations of injeolmi, as well as pumpkin and mugwort seolgi.

Our standout was the black sesame injeolmi, which had a pleasant chew and was generously coated in fragrant black sesame powder. The seolgi reminded us of traditional steamed Malay kuih, though firmer and drier in texture. Overall, we appreciated that the desserts weren’t overly sweet.

We also tried the Dubai chocolate chapssaltteok (RM13). It was decent, though we preferred the softer, chewier mochi texture we had in Seoul. That said, Siru’s version is a good local take on the trendy Dubai-style chewy desserts.
