Snow Dessert Café, Taman Paramount
[Muslim-friendly] We’ve been missing Korean bingsu since our trip to Seoul, so we were excited to find that Snow Dessert Café offers quite a good dessert here in PJ.
Snow Dessert Café in Taman Paramount
Snow Dessert Cafe is located in Taman Paramount PJ.
This newly opened dessert shop is on the same row of shophouses where Restaurant Loong Foong (famous for its roast duck) and One Half Coffee are located.
We stumbled upon this café when we were in the area. It’s really not hard to miss with its neon pink cyberpunk interior, which does help it stand out from the many cafes on the same street.
Snow Dessert Café offers a variety of cold desserts
Snow Dessert Cafe specialises in cold desserts – with shaved ice as its core ingredient.
The shaved ice here has a snow-like texture, which is similar to bingsu, and is generally made with frozen cream or milk.
Some of the popular offerings here include Matcha Pupu (RM26 – matcha snow ice served with red bean and mini pearls), Strawberry Cheesecake (RM32 – ice-cake topped with strawberries and cheese cake cubes) and Into the Ocean (RM32 – snow iced served with sea-salt, cream cheese and lime).
Snow also serves drinks here such as Pink Venom (RM13 – strawberry milk with espresso) and Cha-co-Fee (RM13 – coconut milk with espresso).
Oppa bingsu style!
Since we missed traditional bingsu, we ordered the Oppa Bingsu (RM26) – which is the traditional snow ice served with injeolmi/kinako (soybean powder) and rice cakes.
This really hit the spot for us, as the soft and snowy texture of the ice was really similar to the bingsu we had in Seoul. It had just the right amount of milky creaminess as well, and we loved how generous they are with injeolmi and the rice cakes.
Sadly, some parts of the injeolmi powder had melted when served – but it did not change the flavours at all.
Pomelo pupu
During our second visit, we tried the Pomelo Pupu (RM26) – which is the shop’s take on the popular Chinese traditional dessert 楊枝甘露 (mango pomelo sago dessert).
While this version does not contain any pomelo, we did enjoy it as well. The snow is made from mango iced shavings with enough mango fragrance, and topped with cream cheese and sago on top.
It goes well with the mango cubes on the side, and the salty hits of the santan and cream cheese really complemented the sweetness of the snow ice.
Summary
Overall, we were quite pleased with the two desserts – with a preference for the Oppa Bingsu due to the generous amount of rice cakes and injeolmi, and how close it is to the desserts we had in Seoul.
