Sri Trat Restaurant & Bar
[Non-halal] We enjoyed the food at Sri Trat Restaurant & Bar in Bangkok.
This restaurant specialises in cuisine from Trat – a province located in Southeast Thailand that borders Cambodia. Trat cuisine is known for its fresh seafood and use of regional herbs like Siam cardamom and Chamuang leaves.
Come here for something special as the dishes here are rarely found in most Thai restaurants.

We enjoyed the three dishes we ordered here:

1. Stewed Pork Belly with Chamuang Leaves (THB270 or USD8)- The native leaves provided a distinct sour and herbal taste to the dish. While the dish tasted similar to asam pedas, it did not contain any tamarind. The pork belly stew was very appetising that go very well with white rice. It was also not spicy, and paired well with the tender pork belly chunks.

2. Deep Fried Silago fish with Garlic and Turmeric (THB310 or USD10) – The boneless Silago fishes were fried to crispy perfection, and cooked with whole Thai garlic cloves and turmeric. The fishes were crispy and savoury on their own – and elevated with a distinctive garlicky kick.

3. Crispy Fried Taro and Homemade Tofu with Sweet Tamarind Sauce (THB195 or USD6) – The fried taro fritters reminded us of cucur udang with chunks of taro inside. The homemade tofu were fresh and soft with lovely crispy skin. The thick and sticky tamarind sauce was the perfect dip and reminded us slightly of kuah rojak buah.
