Tan Heng Noodle House, Kepong
[Non-halal] Our hunt for steamed Song fish head continues in Kepong as we visit Tan Heng Noodle House 陳興福建麵家.
This Chinese restaurant is located on the busy Jalan Kepong, and is often packed during peak hours.
Tan Heng Noodle House in Kepong

As the name implies, Tan Heng Noodle House 陳興福建麵家 to be quite popular for its noodle dishes – in particular the Hokkien Mee.
But like any good Chinese dai chow restaurants, Tan Heng Noodle House also offers Chinese dishes with steamed Song fish head as one of its signature orders.

On this Saturday evening, we ordered the Hokkien Mee (RM12 for one pax), Signature Fish Head in Ginger Sauce (RM39), and Fried Chicken Wings (RM10 for a pair).
Hokkien Mee

The Hokkien Mee is one of the most popular orders here, with almost every table seems to have at least one plate.
The portion was generous for the price – and should be able to feed two people comfortably with other dishes.

The noodles had decent wok hei, and we noted the lack of alkaline taste. They were also quite generous with the pork lard. While it’s not the best we had – it still satisfied our craving.
Steamed Fish Head in Ginger Sauce

The Steam Fish Head in Ginger Sauce here was also good value for money due its portion. The ginger paste here is similar to the one we like at Restoran LFF.
The ginger was blended for a slightly “pulpy” texture, but it was not as spicy as the one at LFF. Fish was as fresh as it could get.

The Fried Chicken Wings were freshly fried to order – so it arrived warm with juicy meat and crispy batter.
The fermented bean curd batter gives it a bit of umami.
Conclusion
Overall, we were pleased with our meal here. The place had a queue by the time we were done at 7.15pm.
Watch this space as we explore more eateries in Kepong in the future.
