We love the vibe inside Tansen Izakaya, which imitates the izakaya alleys of Tokyo.
That’s not to distract from the food on offer – mainly izakaya staples such as yakitori, kushikatsu, sashimi, tempura and of course, alcohol. Well, we tried to sample their food categories as much as (physically) possible for two person.
Yakitori, chawan mushi and highball
For yakitori, we tried the Chicken Thigh with Leek (RM5) – we like that the meat was tender and not overcooked. It was also marinated with the right amount of salt.
Salmon hoiruyaki
The Salmon Hoiruyaki (RM22) – grilled salmon in foil – was also a standout. The caramelised onions and mushrooms really added sweetness to the tender meat and goes well with the dipping sauce. I only wished the fillet was bigger.
Assorted tempura Kushikatsu
The Assorted Tempura (RM15) and Chicken Thigh Kushikatsu (deep-fried chicken in batter on skewer) (RM4) were pretty good too. All in, Tansen is a good addition for Japanese food in the Damansara Jaya area. Donburi and ramen are available too.
