Three breakfast spots in Taipei
[Non-halal] On our last day in Taipei, we tried three famous breakfast spots in Wanhua District, Taipei. These were 羅家擔仔麵 Luo Jia Danzai Noodles, a soybean stall 豆漿燒餅店 next to it, and the popular Chen Kee Oyster Noodles 陳記腸蚵專業麵線.
All three locations are located in the Wanhua District, and are easily accessible from the Longshan Metro station.
羅家擔仔麵 Luo Jia Danzai Noodles
We discovered 羅家擔仔麵 Luo Jia Danzai Noodles when we watched this Mark Wiens’ Youtube video during our trip to Taipei.
Located in Wanhua District, this stall occupies a small corner lot of a local flat residential area.
We had a great experience here as the lady boss is an Indonesian, and she was more than happy to speak in Bahasa Indonesia (and Mandarin) with us!
We learned that this stall was first opened by her mother-in-law more than 40 years ago. Her mother-in-law first learned to cook this dish when she studied in Tainan (south of Taiwan) years ago, and decided to open this stall here in Taipei.
The danzai noodles have an interesting origin story. It is said to have been created by a fisherman in Tainan who came up with this recipe with dried shrimp as the base to sell and make a living during the bad season when fishing is limited.
Overall, we enjoyed the unique flavours of this dry noodle dish. The shrimp base is mixed with pork to create a savoury gravy that is salty and mildly sweet. The noodles are best enjoyed when mixed with the fresh scallion and bean sprouts, and the chilli paste for a bit of heat.
The Fuzhou fishballs were quite delectable as well – juicy meat paste encased in a bouncy fish paste.

豆漿燒餅店 Savoury soybean and youtiao stall
Located next to the Danzai noodles shop is a 豆漿燒餅店 shop selling savoury/salty soybean and youtiao breakfast dishes that caught our eye.
Fuhang Soy Milk is probably the most famous spot to enjoy savoury soy milk and other popular Taiwanese breakfast dishes in Taipei, but it is also known for its insane long queue.
If you’re looking to skip Fuhang, we’d recommend this spot as the food is quite tasty and the operators are friendly too! It seems to be quite popular with the locals too.
We enjoyed the savoury soy milk which contains some preserved radish, and is best enjoyed with chilli oil and pickled chillies to enhance the flavours. We found the youtiao wrapped in bread to be decent as well as they were adequately crispy and doughy in the right way.

Chen Kee Oyster Noodles 陳記腸蚵專業麵
Despite having already eaten two breakfasts that morning, we couldn’t help ourselves when we passed by Chen Kee Oyster Noodles 陳記腸蚵專業麵(or Chen Ji Oyster Noodles) on our way back to the hotel.
We were glad that we did as this was one of the best oyster noodles we ate in Taipei. For only TWD65 (USD2), our bowl came with nine plump oysters and a good amount of pork intestines.
The noodles were really tasty as the gravy has a nice thick consistency with a prominent garlicky taste. The oysters were also fresh! The dish was best enjoyed with vinegar and chilli condiments.
All three shops are easily accessible from the Long Shan Metro station.
