Tian MiMi Secret
[Non-halal] Tian MiMi Secret 甜秘密糖水铺 is a new eatery in Ara Damansara serving traditional tong sui alongside comforting, homely savoury dishes. Tucked away in a quieter part of the neighbourhood, the restaurant was opened as a heartfelt tribute to the owner’s late mother.
The focus here is on fresh ingredients and well-executed home-style cooking. Savoury offerings include Teochew porridge, hand-pulled pan mee, and Hainanese chicken chop.
A sweet secret in Ara Damansara
The restaurant takes its name from a famous Teresa Teng song — the owner’s mother’s favourite. Having only been in operation for a few weeks, Tian MiMi Secret currently offers a concise but thoughtful selection of savoury dishes.
The Teochew Porridge (RM19.90) may seem pricey at first glance, but the congee is cooked to a perfect creamy consistency and comes with a generous spread of daily side dishes.
During our visit, it was accompanied by braised chicken, omelette, cabbage, salted egg, and salted tofu — a combination that reminded Max of his grandmother’s Teochew porridge from his childhood.
For something more substantial, the Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM23.90) is prepared the traditional way: grilled rather than fried, and served with a classic brown sauce instead of tomato sauce.
The Hand-Pulled Pan Mee (RM16.90) arrives in a large bowl filled with a robust anchovy-based soup and plenty of sayur manis. The noodles have a distinctly homemade texture that we really enjoyed.
On the sweet side, Tian MiMi Secret offers a wide range of traditional Chinese desserts. The Barley Ginkgo (RM14.90) was lightly sweetened and fragrant, topped with a whole boiled egg for added protein. We also enjoyed the Tapioca with Peach Gum (RM14.90), which was equally comforting.
