[Non-halal] A thousand layer of yumminess!
This is such soul food! The Buta Hakusai Nabe (RM22) is as homely and comforting as it looks.
Cabbage layered with pork belly cooked in savoury dashi broth – this is probably one of the best nabes we had!
Buta Hakusai Nabe
Also known as Mille-Feuille Nabe (ミルフィーユ鍋 or 1,000 layer leaves) – the meat and cabbage are beautifully layered and kept warm in a claypot.
The nabe comes with a side of dipping sauce – add a bowl of rice for a complete and healthy meal of fibre, protein and carbs. The broth is just so good!
Pork curry don
Second surprise: the curry here is delicious too! Our Pork Curry Don (RM20) was filled to brim with rice, and then ladled generously with curry gravy and sliced pork.
The Jap curry here is so unassuming but it is one of the best we had – so thick and flavourful. It is different from most as it is made from scratch by chef Tamada. The don comes with miso soup and green tea.
Chawanmushi Whisky highball
We thought the Chawanmushi (RM5) here was exceptional – so wobbly and tasty.
If the interior looks familiar, this premise was only taken over by a new management before MCO. Menu is revamped though by head chef Tamada who hails from Kobe.
On a second visit, I had the Pork Katsu Don (RM23). The pork katsu was huge and rice was doused in yummy gravy. It comes with green tea and miso soup. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! To get here, go down the escalator next to Eatomo, turn left and you’re there.
