Dubu Dubu Restaurant, Hartamas
[Pork-free] Dubu Dubu Restaurant in Desa Sri Hartamas is a new-ish Korean restaurant specialising in fresh tofu.
The restaurant is opened by Mr Kim, the owner of Buldojang (known for its Chinese-Korean dishes, and located just below Dubu Dubu) and specialises in all dishes featuring its homemade tofu.
We enjoyed the food here and found the tofu (and banchan) to be one of the freshest and tastiest in town.
Dubu Dubu Restaurant in Hartamas
Based on Mr Kim’s grandmother’s recipe, the tofu here are made fresh daily with a 10-hour cooking process.
While the restaurant is focused on tofu, Dubu Dubu still incorporates meat into its dishes. So meat lovers, don’t fret.
Dishes here include 해물두부전골 Haemul Dubu Jeongol (hotpot tofu with seafood and veggie), 우삼겹두부조림 Woosamgyeop Dubu Jorim (tofu stew with braised beef belly), and raw tofu with seasoned soy sauce.
Sotbap Jeong Sik
The Sotbap Jeong Sik 솥밥정식 (RM49) is rice cooked in pot set meal.
The set comes with your choice of brown or black rice cooked in a pot, and the option of beef bulgogi or grilled mackerel as the main protein .
The set also comes with six not-refillable side dishes – perilla seed seaweed soup with tofu, chilled jellyfish salad, cabbage & sesame leaf pickle, fresh kimchi, seasoned pollack roe, and fried tofu with perilla oil. There is also a healthy sweet dessert drink.
If you want a complete meal – this definitely meets the criteria due to the variety of side dishes. We really enjoyed the seasoned pollack roe and fried tofu amongst the dishes, and the kimchi here is quite delicious.
The grilled mackerel was perfectly cooked to yield flesh that is tender and juicy.
Seafood Sundubu jiggae
We also tried the Seafood Sundubu Jiggae 해물순두부찌개 (RM32) – which is tofu cooked in stew with seafood.
For one, the tofu really stood above the rest (vs. other sundubu jiggae we had elsewhere) as we could taste the natural sweetness of the tofu prominently. The tofu are also served in a slightly mushy texture (instead of a block) which gives it a nice textural difference.
The stew itself has a good spicy kick, and they were also very generous with the amount of seafood, which includes shrimps and clams.
The dish comes with four refillable side dishes including a sweet tofu dish which we really enjoyed.
Summary
In our view, there are more items on the menu that warrant a revisit – with the Kongguksu and Braised Beef Tofu Stew as our likeliest orders on our next visit.
