Four Beans Soy Desserts in PJ
[Pork-free] Can we ever get too many dessert shops in KL? The answer: Never!
Four Beans Soy Desserts 四夕豆花 has opened a new branch in Taman Megah PJ.
While this branch was only recently opened in July, Four Beans have been operating for years with more than 10 outlets nationwide.
Our friend recommended this spot – so we decided to check it out after dinner on a Saturday.
Four Beans Soy Desserts 四夕豆花 in SS24, Taman Megah
According to literature, Four Beans Soy Desserts originated from a family recipe handed down by Grandpa Luo to the current third generation.
The name is derived from the family recipe – which uses four kinds of non-GMO soybeans to create a beancurd with the best texture and taste. The family also does not add any gypsum powder to the recipe.
Four Beans is quite popular
Despite operating for less than a month, this branch here is already quite popular with a queue during the weekends. We arrived at about 8pm and had to take a number to wait our turn for a pax of four (and a toddler).
Thankfully, the wait wasn’t too long as this branch has two floors of dining space.
Signature Rose & Lychee Soy Beancurd
As we already had dinner elsewhere, we opted for four desserts to share. Honestly, each dessert had its merits, and we all had our own favourite.
The first is the Rose & Lychee Soy Beancurd (RM17). This signature dessert can be served warm or cold and features its soy bean curd topped with lychee, water chestnut balls, rose jelly, rose & lychee jelly, and rose syrup.
First – the bean curd (tofu fa) was really soft with enough soy bean fragrance to provide the base for the other ingredients. We also liked that it wasn’t very sweet and we could adjust the sweetness with the rose syrup served on the side.
The lychee’s sweetness paired well with the rose jelly for a floral and mildly sweet combo.
Black Sesame Taro Ball Shaved Ice
For those who prefer something less sweet, the Black Sesame Taro Ball Shaved Ice (RM21) is an excellent choice.
The shaved ice was soft and fluffy, with plenty of sesame fragrance and not too sweet at all. It worked well with the addition of black sesame taro balls, mini taro balls, and red bean.
Note that you can also order a plain shaved ice dessert and add your own toppings – with ingredients such as grass jelly, peach gum, sago and fresh watermelon.
Matcha Shaved Ice with Mixed Taro Balls
We were also game for matcha that evening, and tried the Matcha Shaved Ice with Mixed Taro Balls (RM20).
Again, the shaved ice had the proper soft texture, was not sweet with enough matcha fragrance. In fact, this was probably the least sweet dessert we had that evening.
White Peach Oolong Shaved Ice
Finally, we also tried the new White Peach Oolong Shaved Ice. The shaved ice had enough white peach sweetness with oolong undertones, and topped with taro balls and honey pearls.
Summary
Our group enjoyed the shaved desserts here which had great combinations. We’ll definitely come back to try their other offerings.
