Hey Yi Dessert 喜二糖水
[Pork-free] Hey, there’s a new dessert spot in town!
Hey Yi Dessert has been sprouting around Klang Valley and we checked out the new outlet in Kepong.
Hey Yi Dessert in Kepong
Hey Yi Dessert 喜二糖水 is a relatively new name in the tong sui game, but it currently has seven outlets in the Klang Valley.
Our craving for tong sui brought us to the branch in Kepong’Gi – another new commercial development in the area.

Note that parking here was quite limited during the weekend – but there were plenty of F&B options here including Uo Shin and Fish With You.
There was already a queue at 8pm on a Saturday evening – but we didn’t had to wait long for our turn. And the process was quite smooth.
Hey Yi Dessert’s wide offerings

Hey Yi Dessert offers a wide array of desserts – from traditional tong sui such as ginkgo barley to mango snow ice to crushed peanut milk mochi.
There are also savoury items such as chee cheong fun, scallion oil noodles and fries.
Check out the picture above for their top-selling items.
Ginkgo Barley and Peanut Sesame Soup

Our favourite traditional desserts are Ginkgo Barley, and Peanut and Black Sesame Soup (RM4.90 each) – so naturally, those were our orders.
The Ginkgo Barley was perfect for us as it was not too sweet, and not laden with thickener so we could taste the natural flavours of the ingredients.
The portions of ginkgo and barley were reasonable for the price.

We’ve been disappointed by Peanut and Black Sesame Soup that’s too diluted or thick at other shops. But this one had the perfect consistency with robust peanut and sesame flavours. We liked the bits of peanuts as well.
We added Milky Mochi (RM4) to the ensemble. The mochi has a melted mochi quality with a bit of milky taste – which was a nice contrast to the peanut and sesame flavours.

The Purple Potato Crepe (RM10.90) is freshly made and similar to the Woh Peang 豆沙锅饼, except the filling is purple sweet potato instead of red bean. It’s also delicious.
Conclusion
All in, we liked the desserts here and it’s probably one of the better ones for traditional tong sui.
The prices are reasonable and we like that they’re not too sweet and don’t use thickener – which allows the natural flavours to shine through.
