Kkulmat in Bandar Menjalara
[Non-halal] We spent our last lunch of 2023 at Kkulmat in Bandar Menjalara.
Run by a Korean family, 꿀맛 Kkulmat serves homely Korean food such as Bibimbap, Doenjang-jjigae and less common ones such as Siraegi Doenjang Guk (Dried Radish Leaf Bean Paste Soup) and Auk Doenjang Guk (Mallow bean paste soup).
Kkulmat in Bandar Menjalara
A step into Kkulmat is like a step into your local tuition centre back in the day.
The set-up is very simple with wooden tables and black plastic chairs that make for a comfortable dining environment.
Banchan is delicious
From the onset, we were quite pleased with the banchan offered here. All of the side dishes were fresh and tasty, and certainly had a home-cooked quality to them.
The kimchi here also has a bit more hours of fermentation which gives it a nice sour hit.
Mandu is yummy
Kkulmat serves both normal and kimchi Mandu (dumplings), and we decided to order a serving of the former.
We really enjoyed the dumplings here. They were plump and we found the filling to be quite tasty and well-seasoned. In fact, we might prefer the mandu here to the one we tried at Myeondong Kyoja in Seoul.
Doenjang-jjigae
Doenjang-jjigae (RM25) here is the closest to how we cook it at home – with plenty of doenjang paste for a satisfying taste. Kkulmat’s version is vegetarian as it is not served with any meat but there were plenty of tofu, zuchini and other veggies to make for a full meal.
Bibimbap
We also enjoyed the Bibimbap (RM25) here as well. All the veggies were fresh and crunchy, but the generous amount of home-made bibimbap sauce makes this dish a standout.
Summary
If you’re looking for delicious home-cooked Korean food, Kkulmat is definitely worth checking out.
