KLCG Confectionery & Bakery
[Halal ingredients] KLCG Confectionery & Bakery has reopened at its new location in Jalan Ampang.
This popular bakery is now housed in an old bungalow lot in Kampung Datuk Keramat, and is only a 2-minutes drive from KLCC.
KLCG in Jalan Ampang
KLCG (which stands for Kuala Lumpur City Gallery) first began as a family establishment in the 1970s. In fact, this new spot is located only nine blocks from its original store.
Their passion for baking led them to open a small bakery in Taman Midah, before they really took off at Dataran Merdeka.
The shop at Dataran Merdeka had since shuttered for renovation, and this one at Jalan Ampang is the new flagship restaurant for KLCG.
We actually prefer this new place as there is an ample space for parking within the compound. The space is also bright and cheery – and offers a view into the kitchen where the pastries are made.
The team is currently applying for Halal certification.
Waiting time at KLCG
We arrived for tea at 1.30pm on a Saturday and had no problems securing a parking spot.
We had to register on the website to queue, and were seated within 30 minutes with 11 parties ahead of us.
Service here is very prompt and they provide enough seats at the waiting area.
Once seated, we could order the pastries and cakes at the counter. KLCG also serves hot meals from the kitchen with a good selection of pizzas, pasta and Western meals.
However, we went straight for the pastries/cakes as per our intention.
Mochi Frasier Petit Gâteau
The Mochi Frasier Petit Gâteau (RM26.90) is one of the more popular items here, and is a minimised version of their famous RM168 full-sized cake.
This was quite enjoyable as the sponge cake was delightfully soft and fluffy – as it is sandwiched between strawberry cream and frozen strawberries. It wasn’t too sweet and the encasing mochi skin had the right thickness. This went well with the hot batch coffee we ordered.
Chocolate Cremeux
The Chocolate Cremeux (RM16.90) was another delightful sweet pastry – a dollop of dark chocolate-orange ganache sits on top of chocolate cream, candied orange peel and fudge cake wrapped in a flaky pastry.
Ham & Cheese Croissant
The Ham & Cheese Croissant (RM14.90) packed a nice savoury punch with quality chicken ham and cheese filling wrapped in buttery pastry, and topped with more cheese.
For only RM8.90, the standard Buttered Croissant also ticks all the right boxes – buttery, flaky exterior, and a soft middle.
Summary
KLCG’s claim to fame are the crombolonis but we’ve deliberately eschewed them for the ones we tried today, and they were good!
We’ll come back to try the pizzas and Hainanese Chicken Chop.
