[Halal] For us, Christmas dinner means one thing – Chinese seafood! We usually avoid western/Italian joints for Christmas family dinners, as they tend to be packed with Christmas menu that are overpriced.
So for Christmas dinner, we gathered at Lala Chong Kayu Ara for some scrumptious seafood! It has been a long time since we were here – so we were unsure on the quality of dishes.
We’re happy to report – almost everything was great! Here’s what we ordered:
The Kam Heong crabs were super huge and super-satisfying. We ordered two crabs (RM88/kg) to feed five. The kam heong sauce was fragrant – we detected the addition of bunga kantan, which really elevated the dish. The sauce goes well with rice.
Clams in superior soup
The most popular dish here has to be the Clams in Superior Soup (xiong tong lala). Clams were succulent and fresh – which is key for a good lala soup. We loved the ginger highlights of the soup.
Steamed tilapia Teochew style
We also enjoyed the Steamed Tilapia Teochew-style. Fish was fresh and cooked just nice, so flesh was tender. The broth is light and healthy with the perfect balance of sourness, savoury and sweetness.
Stir-fry green dragon vegetables
The Stir-Fry Green Dragon Vegetables (cheng long choy) and Bittergourd Omelette were ok-oklah – nothing outstanding but they get the job done.
